Over 75 Years of Little Village
In 1946, a small group of parents decided to form a cooperative nursery school in Los Angeles and Little Village Nursery School was born. Parent-members included some of the city’s most prominent psychoanalysts, including Ralph Greenson, Hannah Fenichel, Roz Wyman, Judd Marmor, and even Anna Freud as an advisor.
As a Co-op preschool, we value partnering with parents to educate and support them through their parenting journey. Parents are an active participant of their child’s school experience as they volunteer their time and talents to create a wonderful community. We all work together to create a warm, supportive, and thriving environment for our children to learn, play, and grow.
The curriculum at Little Village Nursery School is focused on developing social, emotional, and academic skills through play-based learning. Our program philosophy is implemented through an approach termed “Emergent Curriculum.” An emergent curriculum is constantly evolving in response to children’s changing needs and interests, parental and community interests and concerns, and teachers’ priorities. Each of these key elements shapes the direction for future learning.
Now over seventy five years later, Little Village remains a delightful haven for children with a friendly, involved community of parents and teachers.
